Tasting note

A Vintage Port from the year 2000. It is intense with a full body. This means that this Vintage from Dow's can mature in the bottle for decades to come. Now it still tastes like black fruit, raisins and blackberries. But the longer it matures, the more the ripening tones emerge such as leather, tobacco, chocolate, mocha and coffee.

Description

The Symington family is one of the leading English port families, with a long history in the area. Their ports are of great quality, due to a huge possession of port brands and vineyards. Established in 1798, Dow's was the first British Port producer to invest heavily in the best vineyards over two centuries ago. The company did this by purchasing Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira in 1890 and Quinta do Bomfim in 1896. These amazing vineyards are fundamental to the good reputation that Dow's has enjoyed for a long time. In 1912, Adrew James Symington became a Dow's partner, and today six family members work in the company. The family personally guides all aspects of winemaking, from the vineyard to the final bottling. This Vintage Port 1994 is a fine example of the excellent quality of this winery. The intense color this vintage has acquired during maturation, together with the excellent fruit aromas make this one of the most beautiful Vintage Ports produced in the last 20 to 30 years. The wine has a deep dark purple color. In the nose we recognize rich fruit aromas of wild berries, roses and violets. In the taste, the intense fruit and also aromas of bitter chocolate. It is a powerful port with a lot of rich tannins and an excellent fruity aftertaste.
