Description

The year 2005 will go down in history as a warm and dry year. The winter preceding the harvest was extremely cold and the lack of precipitation meant that the vines had to use the water reserves in the soil after an already very dry 2004.
Leaf formation was therefore delayed until late March. The fruits also appeared to remain small for a long time due to a lack of water. A redeeming bit of rain only fell just before the summer. Now, however, a very hot and dry period with three heat waves began. Although the plants were affected by this, the small grapes still ripened very steadily. Beautifully concentrated bunches that were healthier than ever developed more slowly than usual. Fortunately, sufficient cooling precipitation fell at the beginning of September to successfully conclude the ripening season. Picking could start on Vargellas in the first half of the month.
