Tasting note
This wine needs only two words to describe it: Absolutely top!
Description
This wine consists of 60% Grenache and 40% Moudevre.
The wines of Chateauneuf du Pape are made from 13 permitted grapes (8 blue and 5 white). Almost no domain uses all the grapes. The domaine Saint Préfert uses the clairette and the rousanne for the white wine and the grenache, syrah, mourvèdre and cinsault for the red wines.
The domaine was founded in 1920 by Fernand Serre, a pharmacist from Avignon, and he took his first steps as a winemaker. After his death, his son Camille took over the estate and Saint Préfert became one of the first domaines to export its wines in bottles. Since 2003, Saint Préfert has been led by the passionate Isabel Ferrando and the estate currently covers 17 hectares. Isabel is an absolute top performer, a newcomer who is already making waves in the small world of Chateauneuf du Pape. All the major magazines, Wine Spectator and Robert Parker's Wine Advocate in particular, are raving about her style and wines.
Yields per hectare are only 20 hl per hectare and this produces beautifully concentrated wines with great finesse.
The wines remain for 18 months in (partly) new demi muids barrels (600 litres).
