Description
The wine magazine Perswijn recently tasted 71 Southern French Rhône blends and selected the red Pontificis as the wine with the best price-quality ratio. The combination of the grape varieties Grenache Syrah and Mourvèdre with a short oak maturation gives the Pontificis a luxurious and opulent taste.
The man behind the success of this red wine is Laurent Delaunay. In addition to being a skilled winemaker, he is also responsible for the selection of grapes. These come from old vines in the Languedoc with the famous cru La Clape and the Roussillon.
The result is so good that the papal name Pontificis adorns the label with a wink referring to the famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape! After barrel maturation, the wine is bottled without filtering to retain maximum flavour.
