2018 Reichsrat von Buhl Pfalz Kieselberg Riesling

This riesling comes from the Grosse Lage (aka grand cru) Kieselberg and is of absolute top quality. There is also the treatment in the vineyard and the cellar: selective harvesting by hand, a low yield (30 hl / ha) and long ripening on the lees. The flavor intensity and length in the finish are overwhelming with mineral complex nuances. Annual production is very limited (6,000 bottles).

 

The Kieselberg is located around Deidesheim and is the youngest Großes Gewächs of Reichsrat von Buhl. In order to be classified as GG, the sticks first had to be at least ten years old. Meanwhile, the grape vines are so deeply rooted that the grapes are GG-worthy, also according to the strict standards at Von Buhl. The Kieselberg is characterized by intense, concentrated fruit, a hint of spiciness and elegance thanks to the fresh acids.

 

JR 17.5 / 20 points for 2017 harvest. If vanilla, butterscotch and mandarin fruit are your idea of the fragrance of a Riesling Grosses Gewächs - you will be delighted with the nose of the Kieselberg. These aromas are due to new oak rather than Riesling. On the palate some subtle mineral and spicy nuances add interest. Structure and elegance cannot be denied.
