|
Beautiful spring and summer wine, also slightly chilled
Giuseppe Gabbas is one of the best in Sardinia
Best in taste up to 3 to 4 years after harvest |
100% Grenache
Light red color and fruity, aromatic in smell with nuances of fresh red fruit and a slight spiciness. The taste is smooth, fresh and round in structure and ends with a juicy aftertaste. Great with light charcuterie and pasta dishes.
A small production which improves the quality
With an annual production of just 70,000 bottles from twenty hectares of vineyards, retired lawyer Giuseppe Gabbas is a small Sardinian producer. The Italian wine guide Gambero Rosso nevertheless calls him 'un grande viticoltore' and counts him among the best Cannonau makers on the island. In particular, the refinement and drinkability are praised: no dark-colored blockbusters, but elegant Cannonau with refinement.
Giuseppe's wine estate is located just south of Nuoro, the capital of the beautiful mountain region of Barbagia, and benefits from the coolness of the sea breeze and the gusts in the mountains. Partly because of this, the grapes ripen long and evenly, so that the tannins in the skins ripen perfectly and taste smooth.
The Lillové is made mainly from cannonau (synonymous with grenache) and is supplemented with a small percentage of other native Sardinian grapes. You can taste the Sardinian warmth in the ripe fruit and the spiciness, but thanks to the juicy freshness the wine remains wonderfully drinkable. Serve it slightly chilled on a hot day.
