Tasting note Menetou Salon

Bright red wine with a spicy fruity aroma of fresh cherries, herbs and some caramel. The taste starts spicy and develops a mild tannin; jammy and fragrant in the aftertaste.

Description

Menetou-salon is now known to many wine lovers as one of the top Sauvignons of the Loire. Much less known is the planting of the Pinot Noir grape. In the neighbouring region of Sancerre, the Pinot Noir is often grown on the less well-situated plots, which then results in a somewhat thin, sharp red wine. This is not the case with Clément in Menetou. He selected his warmest vineyards, which allows this red grape to develop a beautiful ripeness. In addition, the vines, which are between thirty and fifty years old, produce concentrated grapes.

The second fermentation and maturation takes place in small oak barrels. The wine remains for about twelve months in partly new oak barrels, which means that only a slight wood influence is tasteable. In the words of Pierre Clément 'un très grand pinot noir'.
