Ribera del Duero

The northern Spanish wine regions of Ribera del Duero and Rioja form the premier league of Spanish red wine. Both areas are clearly distinct from each other. In the cooler and higher Ribera del Duero, the tempranillo grapes are often not harvested until mid-October. As a result, the wines are usually firmer and more robust in taste.

Manuel Martín of Bodegas Platea uses grapes from his vineyards in Valbuena and Pedrosa de Duero - in the western part of the region - to make a young red wine with about five months of aging in French and American oak.
