Rosso di Montepulciano DOCG
Bright red wine from Italy, full and fruity in scent with nuances of cherries and herbs. Delicious with grilled dishes and spicy pasta.
Sangiovese from Tuscany
Michele Manelli makes beautiful organic wines in Tuscany in the highly regarded Montepulciano. He does this in the most natural way possible to retain maximum flavor.
The buying guides (and us!) love his pure and elegant wines that excel in quality. Due to its aversion to filtering and other technical interventions, the red Salcheto wines may contain a little tartar. These are crystals that precipitate in the bottle during maturation in the cool, underground cellar.
We see this phenomenon more and more with wines from artisan producers who work in a similar natural way and understand the winemakers' choice. Salcheto's Rosso has maximum grape expression, is made from grapes from the younger vines in the Vino Nobile vineyard and matures exclusively in steel tanks. The grapes used are sangiovese (85%), canaiolo (8%) and merlot (7%). Beautiful!
Italian opposites
Freshness and elegance versus toughness and strength. You will discover characteristic differences between red wines from sangiovese and montepulciano respectively. Come taste these wines and determine your taste preference.

Mention
De Grote Hamersma - May 2020: 8.5 | Sterwijn: remarkably good | Juice and casual red cherry fruit
Description
Could the Rosso be cut from the same cloth as Salcheto's Nobile? "Controlled, mature red fruit, optimal balsamic acidity and a neat curl of pencil shavings. Almost incidentally: orange zest and cocoa. A natural beauty, of undisputed class." Almost. Slightly less seriousness and concentration. Some more juice and casual red cherry fruit. Save the Nobile for a special occasion, then you can give it on any day.
