Rioja Tempranillo, Garnacha blend.
Bright red in color and aromatic in smell, with nuances of ripe red fruit and a mild touch of oak. The taste is smooth and round, with light, soft tannins and a pleasant aftertaste.
Las Cuadras, also known as the old horse stables in Rioja.
Beautiful distinctive Catalan red wine, made from the Spanish top grape tempranillo, supplemented with 30% garnacha. The tempranillo does very well in the higher and therefore cooler vineyards in Spain.
Provided it is pruned properly - as with Las Cuadras - this grape reaches perfect ripeness. The garnacha provides a spicy smoothness that goes very well with the freshness and elegance of the tempranillo.
After the harvest, modern vinification follows, followed by four months of maturation in large French oak barrels. The oak scent pairs nicely with the subtle aroma of berry fruit. The taste is very accessible, juicy and even full, but without being heavy. Delicious with chicken, grilled meat or just outside of a meal.
Las Cuadras was put together for us by the talented 'oenologist' Valva Martínez de Toda. In the Catalan village of Flix - about 150 kilometers west of Barcelona - she has been making beautiful wines for twelve years.
The climate in this beautiful, hilly part of Catalonia is Mediterranean, but with continental influences. That means warm days and relatively cool nights. Ideal for a winegrower who wants to make smooth, drinkable and fresh wines.
