De Brut Nature by Pascal Agrapart
Striking Champagne. Complex nose with fruity, spicy and smoky notes. Broad in taste, fruity, creamy and mineral, with a refined mousse and a persistent aftertaste.
Chardonnay, Pinot noir & Pinot meunier
The three famous and important champagne grapes are chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier. What many people don't know, however, is that as many as seven grapes are allowed in the area. Pascal Agrapart is one of the producers who has planted a plot with all seven varieties and turns it into champagne. Fittingly, this Champagne is called Complantée, which loosely translated means something like 'planted together'. The idea behind this wine is that it is not so much about grape as it is about the terroir expression.
The Complantée may be a more experimental wine in the Agrapart range, but in terms of quality it is by no means out of place. The grapes come from grand cru Avize. After the harvest, the grapes ferment in wooden barrels and a malolactic fermentation follows for a creamier character. Once in the bottle, the Champagne matures for another four years on the yeasts that precipitate after the second fermentation in the bottle, which gives the Champagne a layered, toasty character. Because Pascal harvests his grapes very ripe, he hardly needs to add any sugar after disgorging. The Champagne is therefore extra brut, without appearing bone dry. Although not a vintage, there is always one harvest year that forms the basis for this wine.
The special blend gives this Champagne a slightly tighter character than the other wines of the domain, with a lively, fruity character and a clear mineral touch. An exciting, different Champagne, but also unmistakably Agrapart.
