A single vineyard Bobal
100% Bobal from La Mancha
Proving that even in an inhospitable, unknown wine region like Manchuela, you can make world-class wines from a grape that is almost as unknown as bobal, is the great mission of Juan Antonio Ponce (pronounced pon-thee). As far as we are concerned, he has now succeeded with flying colours; taste this amazing Pino!
The Pino is made from 100% bobal, planted in the vineyard of the same name. This vineyard owes its name to the fact that there were once vast pine forests here, pinares in Spanish. The sticks are about thirty years old and stand on poor limestone soils, which gives the wine a mineral-rich character. The Pino owes its elegance and freshness to the high location of the vineyard.
Because the vineyard gives the grapes such a unique character, Juan Antonio keeps it simple in the cellar. In this way he optimally expresses the terroir. He ferments the bobal in whole bunches with yeasts present on the grape. After fermentation, he matures the wine for another year in French oak barrels, which provides a refined, luxurious oak touch. The wine is bottled without clarification and unfiltered.
The smell and taste of this incredibly beautiful wine have the refinement and subtle shades of a luxurious Cru de Beaujolais. What a masterpiece. Drink the Pino with a luxurious meat or game dish, with or without a few years of bottle aging. Trust us, after drinking this Pino, Manchuela will be one of your new favorite wine regions.
