Description
Good news for fans of Raúl Pérez's brilliant Bierzo wines: his iconic Ultreia range has been expanded! And with the cuvée Mata Los Pardos, bottled exclusively for us.
Raúl makes it mainly from mencía grapes from the plot of the same name with a soil of sand and clay. The sticks are about 80 years old and give low yields. This ensures complexity and concentration in the wine.
Pérez picks the grapes by hand when they are nicely ripe, but also contain enough fresh acidity. Once crushed, he ferments the grapes and leaves the skins with the juice for more depth. Finally, he matures the wine in wooden barrels of 500 and 2000 liters, for a balanced wood influence.
It produces a beautiful, refined red Bierzo, which has more complexity and aging potential than cult wine Saint-Jaques, but is younger accessible and more affordable than the luxury crus of the Vizcaína range. Unmistakably Pérez and delicious with lamb, turkey or savory stews.
