Anyone who likes full, powerful, wood-aged red wines would do well to try this Riserva from Cantine Due Palme! Where Due Palmes 'ordinary' Primitivo di Manduria is relatively juicy and elegant by southern Italian standards, this Riserva is an impressive, powerful variant.

The primitivo grapes are planted in the Manduria area, which is considered one of the best primitivo terroirs with its characteristic red soil (due to a lot of iron in the soil). The grapes are harvested late. This not only results in a more concentrated taste, with notes of jammy and dried fruit, but also in a firm body. To select only the highest quality bunches, Due Palme picks by hand.

Once in the cellar, the grapes are crushed for skin maceration. After fermentation and pressing, the wine is aged for nine months in American oak barriques (small wooden casks). In this case, the wood aging is not only intended to round off the structure of the wine nicely, but also to give the wine a clear wood touch.

The Riserva is therefore a pronounced, powerful red wine, with a full body and a firm structure. The taste is intense and clearly partly determined by the wood aging: notes of cherries, plums and fig jam are complemented by vanilla, cloves and coconut. In short, an impressive red wine that calls for a hearty game or stew or a shelf of matured hard cheeses.

Tasting note

Ruby red wine with a sun-drenched scent of plum, black currant plus tobacco, fig paste and oak. Rich and sultry in taste with jammy fruit, soft tannins and mild acidity. The finish is intense with notes of raisins and mocha.
