Description
The cool, northwestern Spanish region of Galicia guarantees crisply fresh, fruity and elegant wines. For example, this delicious Albariño from Rías Baixas.
It is made by Manuel Mendez, from the sympathetic family winery Pazo do Mar. This bodega has its vineyards further inland, so the Atlantic influence is less and the grapes can ripen just a little bit more than closer to the coast.
Manuel harvests his albariño by hand. Some of the grapes come from Rías Baixas sub-region Condado do Tea. After the harvest, a short soaking of the skins takes place and the grapes are destemmed and pressed. The fermentation takes place using the grape's own yeasts, in stainless steel tanks. Before bottling, the wine matures on the yeasts for some time.
It produces a tasty white wine with notes of citrus, apricot, white flowers and a salty touch. Preferably drink it as the locals do: in combination with everything fresh from the sea.
