Description
The cool, northwestern Spanish region of Galicia guarantees crisp, fresh, fruity and elegant wines. For example, this delicious Albariño from Rías Baixas.
It is made by Manuel Mendez, from the friendly family winery Pazo do Mar. This bodega has its vineyards further inland, which means the Atlantic influence is less and the grapes can ripen just a little bit more than closer to the coast.
Manuel harvests his Albariño by hand. Some of the grapes come from the Rías Baixas subregion Condado do Tea. After harvesting, the grapes are macerated briefly and then destemmed and pressed. Fermentation takes place using the grape's own yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Before bottling, the wine matures on the yeasts for some time.
It gives a tasty white wine with hints of citrus, apricot, white flowers and a salty touch. Drink it preferably as the locals do: in combination with everything fresh from the sea.
