Tasting note Branas Grand Poujeaux Moulis
Full, fragrant and intense haut-médoc: deep in color and with a powerful aroma of refined oak, black currant and toffee. The taste is full and firm, but with soft and persistent tannin.
Description
The cru bourgeois, Château Branas Grand Poujeaux has an exceptionally good terroir in the appellation Moulis (Haut Médoc). The 12 hectares of vineyard lie between those of the famous and generally recognized toppers Poujeaux and Chasse Spleen. Justin Onclin has been the owner since 2002. He radically reorganized and managed his vineyard with 50% merlot and 45% cabernet sauvignon in a micro-like way. That goes so far that some sticks are pruned differently than the one next to it. Advising oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt is a supporter of the statement that the technology in the cellar is at the service of a good grape. The grapes are therefore harvested in a perfectly ripe state and the wine matures for 18 months in (partly) new oak casks.
