Tasting note Saintayme
Classic Right Bank Bordeaux. Deep red hue. Beautifully complex fragrance, with ripe blackberries, cherries and oak. The taste is powerful and round and develops a spicy structure with ripe tannins in the aftertaste. Served young, excellent with strong game dishes, after a few years of maturation, delicious with fine dishes from the oven or roast beef. Can be stored for at least 10 to 12 years after harvest.
Description
Beautifully crafted, classic Saint-Émilion from a 9 hectare small vineyard with 100% Merlot grapes in Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse. The owner is the famous winemaker Denis Durantou who is one of the star winemakers of Pomerol with his very exclusive Château L'Église Clinet, an even smaller vineyard of only 4.5 hectares. Château Saintayme does not have the privileged location in Pomerol, but is partly for that reason a bargain, given the quality of this beautiful red wine.
Durantou is a master at making a seductive style wine with soft tannins in combination with ripe fruit tones. The aging in small oak barrels, of which 30% is renewed annually, adds complexity and the expert vinification of Durantou places the wine high in the ranks of the grand crus in Saint-Émilion.
Due to the round, mild taste, this beautiful red wine is also very tasty when young, but extra bottle aging is rewarded with more refined aromas and a silky texture. Saintayme is a beautiful and – given the quality and reputation of the winemaker – very affordable addition to the rack of exclusive wines in your wine store. Very attractive from now on, optimal to drink from 6 to 10 years after harvest.
