Clos de Rey Roussillon Villages Le Sabina 2022

 

Deep red colored wine with a pure, almost sweet fruit expression of blackcurrant and plum. Full and soft taste with mild tannin and a light spiciness (oregano, lavender). Refined and full of character. Aftertaste is persistent.
 
Description

One of the recommended domains of Roussillon is the very small-scale, but qualitatively extremely impressive Clos del Rey. The winery is located in the Agly Valley, in the heart of Maury. It is run by father and son Montagné. Their beautiful vineyards are located at an altitude of about 300 meters, in the middle of a protected garrigue area. The soils consist of schist, lime and iron and the vines are between 50 and 130 years old. Although they own no less than 50 hectares of vineyards, father and son only make wine from the most beautiful eight hectares, the rest is sold. Quality over quantity!
The Grenache, Syrah and Carignan for Le Sabina are harvested and selected by hand. After fermentation, the wine is not aged in wood to maintain the purest possible fruit expression. The result is an extremely characterful red wine, bursting with black and purple fruit and fresh spiciness. The perfect accompaniment to a nice piece of grilled red meat.
