DeMorgenzon DMZ Western-Cape Limited Release Roussanne 2023

 

 

Full, round dry wine with a pleasant aroma of ripe tropical fruit, toast and light butter. The taste is full, round and aromatic and has a soft, persistent aftertaste.

 

Carl van der Merwe, the winemaker of DeMorgenzon, is a member of the prestigious Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG) because of his great craftsmanship. This guild of winemakers currently has around 50 members and represents the crème de la crème of Cape wine growing. What is also special about the guild is that it organizes a benefit auction every year, at which each member presents one or two wines. These very exclusive top wines are bottled especially for this event and sold exclusively by auction. One of Carl's CWG wines is a white Roussanne. Remarkable, because this typical Rhône grape is rarely found in South Africa. Carl not only uses the best grapes from DeMorgenzon for this special wine, but also buys fruit from old bush vines from winegrower friends in Stellenbosch. Typically he selects only the best barrel for auction. He uses the rest of the available wine as a basis for the white Maestro. Carl decided to bottle a few exclusive barrels especially for us. This Limited Release Roussanne is a super exclusive, wood-aged white wine - and that for a very modest price. Be quick, because there are only a limited number of bottles available.
