Light red in colour, lively and fresh in aroma with nuances of raspberry, cherry and pear. The taste is smooth, juicy and deliciously drinkable.

Red Loire is almost synonymous with Cabernet Franc. Not surprising, because that is the most important blue grape of the region. But besides Cabernet Franc there are many more blue grapes, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Gamay. So there is much to discover, such as the deliciously fruity and juicy Gamay from the small-scale family domain La Tour Beaumont in Haut-Poitou.

The current winemaker Pierre Morgeau describes himself as a 'vigneron indépendant' and 'artisan libre', or an independent winegrower and free craftsman. That is exactly how he makes his wines.

The 4 hectares of vineyard with gamay vines are on a soil of flint and clay. Management is mostly done by hand, both to promote biodiversity and to keep the grapes healthy and limit yields. Synthetic pesticides are out of the question and compost comes from the neighbour's cattle. In the cellar too, work is done as naturally as possible.

 

After harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and a cool, temperature-controlled fermentation follows in stainless steel vats to preserve the fruity, supple character of the gamay grape. The wine is not aged in wood and is bottled young. The intensely fruity and juicy character makes this red wine very suitable as an aperitif, but it also has sufficient concentration and 'bite' to combine well with charcuterie, poultry or creamy cheese.
