Burgundy flavors
Beautiful red Burgundy with a pungent aroma of red cherries and light oak tones. The taste is full and balanced in structure, with ripe tannins and a mild aftertaste.
Domaine Francois Raquillet
The best Mercurey properties in the Côte Chalonnaise are considered a good alternative to the big names from the Côtes de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. François Raquillet undoubtedly belongs to this selection. On his domain of 11 hectares of vineyard, he produces beautiful chardonnays and pinot noirs. The Wine Advocate describes them as: 'generous, gourmand wines that are succulent and pleasure, but which also possess levels of complexity and depth that distinguishes them from many of their peers'.
This applies particularly to François' red premier cru wines. Les Veleys is located in the southern part of Mercurey and has an excellent exhibition on the southeast. The vines of no less than 60 years old are on a soil of clay and lime. This special plot yields a powerful, distinguished red Mercurey, with enormous storage potential. Drink this complex, wood-aged Burgundy because of its intense, full character in the first years, preferably after aeration in a carafe. However, between five and seven years after the harvest, it is at its best with complex tones of forest floor and mushrooms. Ideal autumn wine to enjoy on its own or to drink for example with game birds, such as partridge or pigeon.
