Description
After a long and successful winemaking career in California and the Languedoc, Laurent Delaunay was finally able to return to his roots in 2017 and buy back the trading house of his great-grandfather Edouard Delaunay to restore it to its former glory. Since then, he has dedicated himself to producing top quality Burgundies, from surprising villages to superior Grands Crus.
His Santenay Blanc is a real rarity. And that's because only 5% of the wine production in this beloved appellation in the Côte de Beaune is white. Laurent wouldn't be Laurent if he didn't also make a superior quality.
He does this primarily by picking the Chardonnay grapes at the stand. They come from a vineyard called Les Champs Claudes. This is located in the north of Santenay, just below premier cru vineyard Morgeot in Chassagne-Montrachet. Once optimally ripe, Laurent has the grapes picked by hand.
They then receive a first-class treatment in the cellar. After a strict selection of the best bunches, a gentle pressing follows. Fermentation with light stirring of the yeasts and the maturation of thirteen months takes place in French oak barrels.
And that produces a sublime Santenay, with notes of ripe stone fruit, butter and beautiful oak. The taste is ripe and powerful, while the beautifully integrated fresh acids provide liveliness and tension. A delicious white Burgundy, to combine with luxurious, rich dishes.
