Requena Bobal
Wine has been made in the Spanish region of Utiel-Requena for centuries and the DO has been in existence since 1957. Nevertheless, the region has recently gained attention for its modern, juicy and mostly organic wines.
While many wine regions in Spain are getting more and more difficult with the heat and drought, Utiel-Requena benefits from favorable conditions. The climate is warm and continental, but the moderate influence of the nearby Mediterranean and the relatively high location of the vineyards ensure a perfect balance between ripe fruit and fresh acidity in the wines.
This is also the case in this expressive, fruity Elvia Verdejo. Winemaker Luis Miguel Calleja grows the grapes organically. After the harvest, careful pressing takes place, so that only the best juice is used. The wine ferments in stainless steel tanks and then ages on the yeasts (groin) for another two months for a little extra body.
Luis Miguel, for example, makes a strikingly fragrant, fruity and tasty white organic wine that can be used at many times. Drink this fine Verdejo as it is, on a sunny terrace, or in combination with, for example, calamari, shrimp, fried fish or chicken from the oven.
