Château Puech-Haut is one of the top producers of the Languedoc. The flamboyant Gérard Bru is the brain behind the domain. This enormous bon vivant has not yet invented the joie de vivre , but is at the same time a hard worker who achieves what he has set his mind. In the early 1980s, Bru bought a piece of land northeast of Montpellier. Although no vine had yet been planted and there was no AOC classification for the area yet, Gérard saw the potential of the terroir with its soils of limestone and clay covered with the famous galets (the flat round stones that you can also in Châteauneuf-du-Pape).

And so the creation of a top domain began - from scratch. The olive trees were cleared, vineyards were laid out, the domain was built. In 1996, Gérard, who does not do half work, hires none other than Michel Rolland (arguably the world's most famous Bordeaux wine consultant). In 2008 the baton was taken over by Rhône specialist Philippe Cambie.

Today, Puec-Haut has almost 200 hectares, divided mainly over the Languedoc and the AOCs Saint Drézéry and Pic Saint Loup. The domain makes red, rosé and white, from grenache, syrah, carignan, viognier, marsanne and roussane. The wines are powerful, full, round and distinct. Or, to speak with Andrew Jefford, the epitome of 'New World Languedoc style'. A justified compliment!
