Late-ripening grape variety that produces both neutral (mass production) and more characterful wines. The most important white grape for Austria. The vine can give high yields resulting in neutral wines with lean acids. Made to quality, it is a very gastronomic wine. The flavor profile varies – depending on where it comes from – from light and fresh to aromatic and strong. There are also small-scale sparkling versions and sweet wines.
Recognizable aromas: citrus (lemon, lime); fruit); green fruit (apple); exotic fruits (banana, apricot, peach, mango pineapple); spices (white pepper); earthy (mineral, smoky); blossom (honey, blossoms); wood (vanilla).
