Semillon
Semillon ( Bordeaux, Australia, rest of the world)
Grape with high alcohol (sugar) and low acidity. In Bordeaux it is vinified together with Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle into dry white and sweet Bordeaux (including the world famous Sauternes). In Australia as varietal wine with a long storage capacity. The grape is virtually insensitive to diseases. If the yields are too high, the grape loses its character. The thin skin is easily attacked by the pourriture noble.
Recognizable aromas : citrus (lemon, lime); green fruit (gooseberry); plants (grass); ethereal (lanolin),; roasted (toast, nuts > Australia). Sweet wines: exotic fruits (peach, apricot, pineapple, mango); citrus
(orange, mandarin); spices (vanilla, nutmeg); blossom (honey); wood (vanilla).
