Descriptions
Classy wines for very modest prices. That is what Domaine Coudoulet is known for. Their Pinot Noir is a beautiful example of this. Where this wine in previous years was always distinctly Mediterranean in character, namely ripe, round and with a lot of color, the signature of Camille Ournac can now be tasted well.
The wine is lighter and more elegant than before and reminds me more of a fine German Spätburgunder than a Languedoc Pinot. That is not entirely surprising. Camille is not only a huge fan of the Pinot Noir grape, he also studied in Dijon, located in the world's premier Pinot Noir region, Burgundy.
Here he learned typical Burgundy winemaking techniques, such as cold skin maceration, which he now also applies at home. The result is impressive. A deliciously juicy, fruity, slightly spicy red wine, which is good slightly chilled as an aperitif or with light meat dishes. This is southern French ripeness with Burgundian elegance. Chapeau!
