The new sparkling wine from Spain
Refined mousse, complex in scent with nuances of toast, ripe pineapple and matured floral notes. The taste is dry, elegant and with a long, persistent and aromatic aftertaste.
xarel-lo and macabeo grape
The Josep Coca Brut Nature is the prestige mousseux from the artisanal Sabaté i Coca domain located in the Penedès. The family has owned vineyards in the region for four generations and now enjoys a great reputation for their terroir-driven sparkling wines of excellent quality.
The grapes for this top wine come from only four of the domain's 66 plots. These plots were once planted by Josep Coca, the maternal grandfather of winemaker Marcel Sabaté.
The xarel-lo and macabeo are harvested by hand and vinified separately. The base wines are then blended and bottled for a second fermentation in the bottle - as is also customary in Champagne. Once fermented, the wine matures for another four years in the bottle, which gives it an impressively rich and complex character.
The result can easily be compared to a Vintage Champagne: refined, layered, and with a great balance between freshness and ripeness. Given its pronounced character and firm body, Josep Coca is an excellent food wine.
Interesting detail: the signature on the label does not say Josep but José Coca. Under Franco's rule, Catalan names were not allowed and so the Spanish variants had to be used.
