A well-known Silvaner from the Franken region

Traditionally, the German wine region of Franconia is known for Silvaner, but Rheinhessen now also enjoys an excellent reputation when it comes to this characterful white grape. And that is thanks to excellent producers such as Weingut Thörle.

Brothers Christoph and Johannes convincingly demonstrate that in Rheinhessen, in combination with the right terroir (limestone and marl soils in their case), you can make the most beautiful Silvaners. They therefore use top quality grapes: an "early harvest" of Silvaner from the prestigious crus Probstey and Schlossberg.

Where Silvaner can sometimes be a bit heavy, Johannes is keen to harvest his grapes fresh and juicy, not overripe. This ensures that the wine retains a nice tension and does not become too heavy and alcoholic. The wine ferments and matures mainly in stainless steel tanks, a very small part matures in 500 litre oak barrels.

This Gutswein is with its attractive pear fruit and mild creaminess a real classic and typical Silvaner. The fresh acidity, light spiciness and hints of flint provide a perfect balance. Impressively good for under ten euros and delicious with asparagus!
