Pazo do Mar Monterrei Alma de Autor Godello 2022

 

Fragrant, fresh-dry white wine with notes of citrus and a hint of toast. The taste is powerful, fresh-dry, but also has a seductive juiciness due to the 'sur lie' ripening.

 

 

Galician white wines are discovered. The best-known name from North-West Spain is the widely available Rias Baixas, but Galicia offers undiscovered gems further inland. Such as the Alma de Autor from Monterrei by Manuel Mendez.

He makes a beautiful white wine from the Godello grape from an exclusively located vineyard plot with 50-year-old vines. The vineyard, which is less than a hectare in size, is located right next to the bodega. A big advantage because almost immediately after manual picking, the grapes arrive in the cellar where Manuel immediately starts the vinification.

Although still relatively unknown, Monterrei is a rapidly emerging appellation in Galicia with high-altitude vineyards. Almost 70% of the production is white wine. Here on the border between Atlantic and Mediterranean influence, the grapes ripen a little further than in the seaside Rias Baixas. The Alma de Autor has the characteristic Galician freshness in combination with a beautiful full taste. Very suitable with fish, shellfish, white meat and even pasta.
