Information
Culinary widely applicable but also so very tasty
Delicate, intense and with a sublime sweet and sour balance
By Mathieu Kauffmann, Winner of the Years 2020

Historic Karthäuserhof winery, recognizable by its distinctive 'bare-bellied bottles', has been in existence since 1335, making it one of the eight oldest wine estates in the world. Almost 700 years later, it is brimming with energy and new developments.

The delicate Ruwer wines already had a cult following with German and international wine journalists and sommeliers. But since the arrival of Mathieu Kauffmann, former winemaker of Bollinger Champagne and Pfalz domain Reichsrat von Buhl, the wines are even more in the spotlight.

Rightly so, because this beautiful Kabinett matured and bottled by Kauffmann is a gossamer and impressive Riesling with a unique sweet-and-sour balance. Exactly what beautiful Moselle wines stand for. The grapes come from vines on steep slopes in the monopole Karthäuserhofberg and from nearby vineyards with similar terroir.

The Kabinett Feinherb has a delicate scent of exotic fruit and a very seductive, fresh, mild taste. It combines like no other with appetizers, raw fish, a shrimp cocktail, or pate with chutney. An extremely exciting and vibrant Riesling from one of Germany's best winemakers. Highly recommended!
