Cantine Due Palme Salento Selvamara Negroamaro 2021

 

A special red wine, this Selvamara from Cantine Due Palme! The basis are the negroamaro grapes from vines planted in a traditional way according to the special settonce system designed by the Romans.

The idea behind this method of planting is that the vines are arranged in a hexagon, with a seventh in the center - hence sette in the name, the Italian word for seven. In addition, the vines are trained according to the traditional Pugliese alberello system, or as short pruned trees.

 

Thanks to this special combination of planting system and pruning method, the grapes can ripen perfectly. It ensures optimal absorption of nutrients from the soil, good sunlight and continuous air circulation around the plant. Due Palme thus demonstrates a high degree of innovation – precisely by observing traditional customs. The domain therefore takes on a pioneering role in producing wines of the highest quality in different price ranges in Apulia.

Once ripe, the negroamaro grapes are harvested by hand and then dried for another 60 days in the special sala di appassimento. After pressing and fermentation, the concentrated wine matures for another six months in small oak barrels. It produces an impressive southern Italian red wine, with jammy fruit, figs and notes of vanilla.

Beautiful red wine, delicious with not too spicy beef or pork dishes.

Bright red in color with brown nuances; beautiful scent with slightly ripened notes of jammy fruit, toffee and some oak. The taste is mild and aromatic and has a balanced soft aftertaste.
