Information
Kutch Wines
Jamie Kutch is a 46-year-old former Wall Street stockbroker who made a career switch from wine aficionado to winemaker after the events of 9/11. In 2005 he pressed his first grapes. The annual production is now about 36,000 bottles. Kutch has no intention of continuing to grow, because as a perfectionist pur sang he wants to (continue to) do everything in-house.
Pinot Noir with the allure of Burgundy
The most powerful single vineyard.
- Grandiose Pinot that combines the best of Chambolle and Vosne
- From Kutch's warmest vineyard, less than 5 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean
- Drink between 2-3 and 15 years after harvest
94/100 points
The 2019 Pinot Noir McDougall Ranch is one of the most savory wines in this range, as it so often is. Dried flowers, mint, pine, spice and cedar lend striking aromatic presence to this mid-weight, finely-sculpted Pinot. Bright acids and beams of supporting tannin lend shape and energy. The McDougall is a Pinot that emphasizes savory complexity, drive and tension, while the fruit lies more in the background.
