Information
Naturally fermented and aged Nebbiolo for 30 months in wooden barrels
Ultimate sophistication, depth and complexity
Brilliant now, but can also easily mature for another 15 years |
The Nebbiolo not to be missed!
Italian red wine with a refined spicy, slightly peppery and jam-like aroma. The taste is smooth, soft and elegant. Nice with risotto, roasted meat or spicy cheeses.
Paolo de Marchi & his son Luca
In 1999, Paolo de Marchi and his son Luca took over the ancestral domain in Lessona. The vineyards of this once famous wine region are located in the northern part of Piedmont, on the foothills of the Alps and on poor soil. Viticulture in Lessona disappeared in the early 1900s due to two successive crop failures due to hail. Not a terroir for high yields, but for top quality wine, with an emphasis on a refined, elegant style.
Luca himself says that he makes 'the burgundy of Italy'. Measured by the refinement and high quality, a striking comparison! The Lessona is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes. Fermentation takes place with natural yeast cells and the wine ages for about thirty months in oak casks.

PRESS REF: Decanter: 92/100 points
Although best known for his Chianti estate Isole e Olena, Paolo de Marchi longed to revive his ancestral property, which is now run with energy by his son Luca. This is beautifully perfumed on the nose, which shows great charm. The palate is more robust, with firmness and concentration, and lively acidity. The silky texture is particularly appealing. Good acidity and length, and a great success for a tricky vintage. — (2014 harvest) Stephen Brook, December 2019
