Description
'One of Martinborough's finest exponents, I think Palliser Estate deserve as much attention as the likes of Ata Rangi and Martinborough Vineyard because these wines deliver time and time again.' – The Wine Advocate
Martinborough is to Pinot Noir what Marlborough is to Sauvignon Blanc. The region, together with Central Otago, is seen as the Pinot Noir region of New Zealand. Production in Martinborough may be minuscule – even by New Zealand standards – but the quality is unquestionably high.
Conditions in Martinborough, located in the south of the North Island, are very suitable for Pinot Noir. The region has a cool climate, with a long and sunny growing season. This allows the grapes to ripen optimally while retaining a beautiful natural acidity. The poor, permeable gravel soils are perfect for Pinot Noir of excellent quality.
Palliser Estate was one of the first estates to establish itself in the region in 1984. Today the estate consists of approximately 72 hectares, spread over seven vineyards on the Martinborough Terrace, renowned for its beautiful terroir .
The Palliser Estate Pinot Noir is made from five to eighteen year old vines. The wine ferments with natural yeasts and matures for about a year in wooden barrels, a quarter of which are new. This results in a delicate, but structured Pinot, which is delicious now, but can also easily be kept for another ten years. Ideal with poultry, lamb or red meat.

Light ruby red color. Subtle and complex with aromas of ripe wild strawberry, cherry, undergrowth and vanilla. The taste is very seductive and smooth with mild tannins and a fine acidity. Refined and persistent in the final.
