Long description
Where Vintage Port is the ultimate expression of Ruby Port, Colheita is the crème de la crème of Tawny Port. A Colheita is made from grapes from one harvest year and must have matured for at least seven years in wooden barrels.
At Quinta da Romaneira they go the extra mile. In the first place, the grapes do not only come from one vintage, but the touriga nacional, touriga franca and tinto cão are also harvested exclusively in their own vineyards, all of which have the highest possible classification (class A). A special feature in the Douro, where many houses also buy grapes.
In addition, the Colheita from Romaneira matures after the pressing with the foot and the fermentation first for three years in large wooden barrels (tonéis). The Port then matures for another ten years in smaller wooden barrels of 640 liters. This gives the wine a beautifully complex character, with development notes of dried fruit, nuts and spices.
For example, drink the Colheita in combination with matured hard cheeses such as cheddar or manchego, or with a nut or chocolate dessert. Or as a dessert in itself, because a glass of this elegant, seductive and layered splendor Port is a true experience!
