Description
The Sumeire family, known for the beloved Cabaret Rosé, is already considered one of the historic and leading wine producers of Provence. To become even better, the family is working on the next large-scale quality improvement.
Where the Cabaret was an assembly of grapes harvested in different terroirs, brother and sister Olivier and Sophie Sumeire - who together represent the eighth generation - shift the focus to more terroir-type wines. They do this by only producing wines from their three châteaux in Provence: Château l'Afrique, Château Maupage and Château Coussin.
The latter is located near Trets and Mont Sainte-Victoire. Here the Sumeires make, among other things, the refined La Croix du Prieur Rosé. They pick the grapes in a thirty-year-old vineyard with a lime and clay soil, planted with Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah vines.
Once in the cellar, the juice ferments at a cool temperature after pressing, to retain as much of the refined fruit notes as possible. That was undoubtedly successful. The La Croix du Prieur is a beautiful salmon pink color, smells refined of strawberry and peach and has a beautiful dry, fruity, slightly spicy taste. A very pleasant rosé, which is perfect to drink as a drink or terrace wine and at the table.
