Weingut Thörle Rheinhessen Spätburgunder 2022

German red wine with the scent of cherries, red berries and a mild oak tone. The taste is ripe and soft. A nice wine with poultry, rabbit stew or a mild cheese.

Brothers Christoph and Johannes Thörle took over the management of the family business in Saulheim, Rheinhessen, Germany's largest wine region, in 2006. They are ambitious and like to do things their own way. For example, they do not have a large range of different grape varieties, unlike many typical German wine companies.

They limit themselves to a handful of classic varieties such as Riesling and Silvaner for white, and Pinot Noir for red. In the Pinot Noir wines, the Thörle brothers are looking for an optimal balance between acidity, aromatic intensity and ripeness.

The Gault & Millau wine guide (2015) sees it right: "Thörle is becoming increasingly refined, more Burgundian, so to speak. The basic wines are wonderfully juicy, the middle class impressive. A new high-level highlight!"
