Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon & Cabernet Franc blend
Château Gaillard has been in the same family since 1787. The vineyard has 20 hectares and is planted with approximately 50% merlot and 50% cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. The domain is considered a 'Secret Tip'. After Cathérine Papon took over the parental winery in Saint-Émilion, she invested a lot in the vineyard and cellar.
After a few years, she switched to organic cultivation, drastically reduced the yield per vine and introduced a strict selection of grapes on an advanced sorting table. The style and quality of the recent harvests are therefore no longer comparable to those of older years.
The current, 'new' Château Gaillard has much more expression of ripe fruit and tastes more concentrated, while the tannins are nicely soft. The luxurious oak maturation makes the wine even more complex and competitive with other top wines from this special wine region.
Tip: You can also drink the wines young. Then pour them into a carafe, preferably one or two hours in advance, so that the smell and taste can develop. Young, strong wines taste better with grilled meat or with a savory snack such as soft Dutch cheese and sausage than without eating anything with it.

Drink with
Excellent to drink young with seasoned stew. When drunk, it is a good accompaniment to beef and veal with refined sauces.
