The perfect accompaniment to Fruits de mers

Picpoul de Pinet is the ideal accompaniment to 'fruits de mers' and fish dishes in the many fish restaurants around the southern French coastal towns of Agde and Sète. This grape produces a fresh, elegant white wine that is usually bottled without any form of wood maturation.

A few large cooperatives dominate the supply. But the artisanal small domaines such as the Château Font-Mars are the most interesting in terms of quality.

Owner Jean-Baptiste de Clock, who is descended from a Dutch family that emigrated in 1679, cultivates approximately 50 hectares of vineyard around Mèze, the center of Picpoul production. He makes an archetype Picpoul from ripe grapes with that excellent combination of juiciness and a finely balanced dry taste. Recommended!
