Tasting note
This red wine from Northern Italy is among the best. An intense and complex wine to enjoy outside of a meal. Possibly with a fine matured cheese.
Description
The amarone is made from dried grapes that are not fermented until January. Because the grapes contain a large concentration of flavorings, sugars and acids, a very powerful alcoholic wine is created.
After fermentation it matures for about twenty-four months in small oak barrels and another six months in the bottle before the wine is sold. Overwhelming wine with an enormous concentration of flavours. Even Italians drink it without eating!
Valpolicella a versatile wine region
The same wine region, winemaker and the same terroir and yet five completely different wines. That is the special thing about the Valpolicella region east of Lake Garda in Northern Italy. The Accordini winemaking family - headed by brothers Tiziano and Daniele - is the model for the classic quality wines from the region. By means of the traditional appassimento process of drying the grapes, they make the wines ripasso paxxo amarone and recioto.
