Albarino that you must have tasted
Delicious youthful dry white wine with a drifting aroma of green apple and lime. A nice accompaniment to fish salads, shellfish and lightly grilled fish.
Manuel Mendez from Rias Baixas
Manuel Mendez is the talented winemaker of the Finca Os Cobatos we imported. He owns approximately 18 hectares of vineyard in the beautiful Monterrei wine region. Due to the average high humidity and relative coolness, the climatic conditions in Rías Baixas are not always favorable.
The pergola system that is still often used in the vineyard also ensures a high return. Added up, this often leads to insufficient ripeness of the grape, resulting in poor quality. But by pruning efficiently and converting the traditional pergola into modern vines on a leash, the quality can improve by leaps and bounds.
In this way, Manuel Mendez achieves more sunlight and aeration in his vineyard and the result is good. In addition, the granite soil also ensures a naturally low acidity in the grapes. The result: a unique white wine with juiciness and elegance! It is not without reason that dry white albariño of this level is extremely popular in Spanish gastronomy.
Rías Baixas, with its beautiful white wines from the Albariño grape, has an almost unassailable reputation as one of the best wine regions in Spain. The cool and humid region near the Atlantic Ocean in Galicia produces fresh white wines. These were particularly noticeable in the past when other Spanish white wines generally had an oxidative and unexciting character. This situation has now changed, but Rías Baixas retains a unique position with the production of refined white quality wine. This wine usually has a modest alcohol content and a subtle balance between freshness and ripeness.
