Description

Piemonte is best known for its fine quality red wines. Conterno Fantino in Monforte dAlba specializes in Barolo and Barbera and is one of the top players. As a special feature, they also make a small amount of red from the Dolcetto grape. This grape is planted on a piece of vineyard of about 4 hectares in the Barolo area near Monforte. It is a wine that especially charms with its fruity and mild taste. To maximize the properties of the dolcetto grape, the wine does not mature in small oak casks, but remains in a large tank until bottling.

Conterno-Fantino remains a leading exponent of the modern school of Barolo but today macerations are longer than normal casks have been added to French oak barriques and the wines are more polished than they have ever been.
