Description

For the Taylors Vintage Port Quinta de Vargellas 1996 the grapes Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Naçional, Tinta Cão, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Amarela were used. After an intensive soaking period the fermentation continues and the alcohol percentage can increase. When approximately 8% is reached the process is stopped by adding wine alcohol and the juice is placed in oak barrels for approximately 2 years, before maturing further in the bottle.

Quinta de Vargellas is located deep in the Alto Douro, 176 kilometres east of Porto, and forty from Pinhão, at an altitude ranging from eighty metres above sea level on the river to 350 metres high on the hills. It covers 176 hectares, eighty of which are cultivated with vines that lie like a horseshoe along the river.
