Tasting note
The Vintage Port 1999 from Quinta do Vesuvio has an intense deep ruby red color. Full nose with violets, black cherries and blackcurrant fruit. Taste loaded with ripe fruit and hints of dark sweet chocolate together with refined tannins.
Description
Visiting Quinta do Vesuvio is a breathtaking experience. It is the most spectacular Quinta in the Douro Valley, located in the wild and serenely beautiful upper Douro, 120 km east of Porto and 45 km from the Spanish border. The great strength of Quinta do Vesuvio is its sheer size: 136 hectares of vineyards on a 325-hectare estate with a variety of microclimates. The vineyards are spread over seven hills and seven valleys and lie at different altitudes, between 130 and 530 metres. No wonder Vesuvio is seen as one of the great promises among vintage ports.
The legendary Quinta do Vesuvio was purchased in 1989 by the Symington family, also owner of the port houses Graham's, Dow's and Warre's. Through an ambitious investment program, Quinta do Vesuvio has found a connection with the top of the port world and is now considered one of the best producers of vintage port. Unlike most port houses that produce a wide range of port wines, Quinta do Vesuvio produces only vintage ports: Quinta do Vesuvio and the rare Capela do Vesuvio. Grapes that do not meet the strict selection criteria are sold to other port houses.
