Visiting Quinta do Vesuvio is a breathtaking experience. It is the most spectacular Quinta in the Douro Valley, situated in the wild and serenely beautiful upper reaches of the Douro, 120 km east of Porto and 45 km from the Spanish border. The great strength of Quinta do Vesuvio is its sheer size: 136 hectares of vineyard on a 325 hectare site with a variety of microclimates. The vineyards are spread over seven hills and seven valleys and are at different heights, between 130 and 530 meters. No wonder Vesuvio is seen as one of the great promises among vintage ports.
The legendary Quinta do Vesuvio was purchased in 1989 by the Symington family, also owners of the Port Houses Graham's, Dow's and Warre's. Through an ambitious investment program Quinta do Vesuvio has joined the top of the port world and is now counted among the best producers of vintage port. Unlike most port houses that produce a wide range of port wines, Quinta do Vesuvio only makes vintage ports: Quinta do Vesuvio and the rare Capela do Vesuvio. Grapes that do not meet the strict selection criteria are sold to other port houses.
