Information
Unique blend of native grapes
Rafael Vivanco: one of the best modernists in Rioja
No wood aging, but fruit scents, freshness and a juicy taste
Great with salads, poultry and grilled fish

Description

Rafael Vivanco combines the grapes viura, tempranillo Blanco and Maturana Blanca - the virtually unknown but oldest Rioja quality grape - in a flawless white wine with fresh, ripe fruit notes. A breath of fresh air compared to the heavy, wood-aged traditional style of many other producers.

What is striking is the modern and careful vinification, including cold soaking and four months' maturation on the yeast residues. The use of native grapes is also special. Tempranillo Blanca and Maturana Blanca grow exclusively in this region and Vivanco has beautifully situated plots of both varieties.

Rafael cherishes and uses them to give his special and unique white Rioja its own dimension. He shows that you can make real quality wine with these grapes from cool vineyards. A wine that stands out from the large global white wine offering with increasingly uniform aromas and flavors.

Vivanco: top producer of refined Rioja with French influences
English wine writer Tim Atkin places Rafael Vivanco high in the top 10 of modern winemakers in Rioja. Rafael, one of the two sons of founder Pedro Vivanco, is cautious about using new oak and seeks vineyard and grape expression.

He harvests his grapes when the skins are perfectly ripe and therefore contain silky tannins. Rafael learned this modern way of making wine in Bordeaux, where he studied oenology and gained practical experience. He applies this knowledge in his new bodega, where he makes beautiful wines with a sophisticated mix of classic and modern techniques.
