Herdade do Mouchao Alentejo Tinto 2015

Intense red wine with a beautiful aroma of fine herbs, ripened red fruit and oak. The flavor structure is full, powerful and balanced; the finish is long, complex and persistent.

 

Mouchaõ is one of the great classics in the Portuguese wine world. A 38-hectare wine estate, owned by the Reynolds family since 1901, where time has stood still and which was only connected to electricity in 1991. Here wine is made without haste, as it used to be. The hand-picked grapes are still pressed in lagares, large open fermentation tanks, with the feet and then slowly fermented. The top wine Mouchão has international recognition as one of the very best Portuguese wines and is made mainly from alicante bouschet (70%) and trincadeira. After fermentation, Mouchão is aged between 24 and 36 months in large wooden barrels, depending on the quality of the harvest. This is an impressive red wine that comes into its own when you aerate the wine in a decanter well before serving. Mouchão advises to serve the wine at about 17ºC.
