São Miguel Alentejo Escolha dos Enologos

Full red in colour; refined and powerful in aroma with an aroma of ripe blackberries, toasted oak and vanilla. The full flavour attack is balanced, rich and aromatic; the finish has mild, soft tannins and a persistent aroma.

Red wine from Alentejo

Alexandre Relvas and his collaborator Nuno Franco, both oenologists, independently select each year – according to them – the very best barrels of wine from the indigenous grapes Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional. They then make a special blend of this selection, with as many preferred characteristics of both winemakers as possible. This impressive red Alentejo comes from vineyards on slate-containing clay soils. These vineyards almost automatically produce a low yield and therefore concentrated grapes. After the harvest, the grapes ferment in temperature-controlled open vats, the so-called lagares. The second lactic acid fermentation and maturation lasts nine months and takes place in 400-litre French oak barrels. The result is a deeply coloured, powerful red wine with an impressive aroma of ripe fruit and measured oak. The wine has structure, but is not heavy or clumsy and ends with a long, soft aftertaste. A crowd pleaser!
