A delicious Riesling Trocken
Concentrated, mineral-style Riesling from the German Mosel. Ripe and intense on the nose, with notes of grapefruit, green herbs and stoniness. Full, powerful and concentrated in the taste, with salty minerality and an impressive length. Wine par excellence. Delicious with richer dishes, such as fried fish with creamy sauce, poultry or even white meat.
Fahrlay Terraces from the Mosel
Clemens Busch is the proud owner of no less than 16 hectares of vineyards in Marienburg, one of the most beautiful terroirs of the Mosel. The vineyard is located in the municipality of Pünderich, on the border between the Mittelmosel and the Terrassenmosel. From the domain, which is located on the other side of the river, you have a breathtaking view over the beautiful steep terrace vineyards.
What is special about the Marienburg vineyard is the amount of old vines and the enormous diversity in terroir. The vineyard consists of various terraces and plots, each with its own location, exposition, microclimate and soil. Clemens's aim is to reflect this diversity in his wines. In this way he bottles the historical lieux-dits within Marienburg separately and mentions the names explicitly on the bottle.
Fahrlay is one such historic plot in Marienburg. It is the only piece of vineyard where the soil consists mainly of blue slate. Because blue slate is very hard, the roots have to dig deep to get to nutrients. The Farhlay is therefore an extremely mineral, almost salty style riesling.
The grapes for the Fahrlay are harvested in phases, so that each grape is optimally ripe when picked. After pressing, there is a spontaneous fermentation in used wooden foeders, which takes several months. Before bottling, the wine matures on the yeasts for several months. Drink this very well-kept Riesling from about four years after the harvest.

Press ref:
WA 95/100 points for 2017 harvest From vines that are 75+ years old, surrounding the famous Terrassen selection, the 2017 Pündericher Marienburg Riesling GG Fahrlay opens with an intense, upfront, aromatic and highly concentrated nose of Riesling and mirabelle fruit intermingled with dark flint and silex aromas of crushed stones. On the palate, this is a rich, generous, lush, mouth-filling but also very intense and concentrated Riesling with lots of grip and power and lingering salinity. This is a long, complex and highly promising Fahrlay that needs another year to shine for the first time. A great wine worth collecting.

What do we think?: | Jerry: The Clemens Busch Rieslings are great. The minerality splashes off with a wonderfully long finish. |
